Elmer Elsworth Jones was born May 10, 1875, in Mason county, Ill. and departed this earthly life in Polyclinic Hospital at Des Moines, May 6, 1928 after an attack of influenze which developed into acute Brights Disease. He lacked four days of being 53 years of age.
He was married to Lillie Inman on August 21, 1894. He was converted in the M. E. Church in Pottawattamie county and united with the congregation. Moving to Dallas County he united with the United Brethren Church at Hickory Grove. During his membership there he felt the need of more of God's presence and power in his life. He put all upon the altar and was filled with the Holy Spirit, bringing sweet peace and victorious power in his life. From that time until he fell asleep in Jesus he found Christ Jesus his Lord a satisfying portion and found great pleasure in christian work and testimony.
On Saturday at 3 o'clock, his wife, children and relatives being gathered around his bed, he said, "They are calling me; they are calling me." For his family's sake he would like to stay with them, but to depart and be with his Lord was the will of God and he was satisfied.
Brother Jones was an ideal christian husband, father, friend, citizen, and neighbor and leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife, three sons, Edward and Orie of Redfield and Melvin of Earlham, two daughters, Mrs. (Effie) Leland England of Redfield and Mrs. (Verda) Georg Pauls of Clear Lake, Ia.; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Selvester of Peoria, Ill., John of Santa Clara, Calif. and Oscare M. of Silvertown, Oreg. and one sister Rose McAtee of Earlham, besides a host of relatives and friends.
His life had been spent in Iowa since his boyhood. The United Brethren Church will miss his faithful life and testimony.
Note: Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.
