DONA HATFIELD, GEORGIA

Dona Leone Hatfield, 83, of Brunswick, Ga., died Jan. 20, 2008, at Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Dona Hatfield was born Jan. 20, 1925, to Donald and Helen Browne of St. Charles. Following graduation from St. Charles High School, she attended Iowa State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. Later she received a master’s degree in education from Georgia State College for Women. Dona taught at various schools in Glynn County. She also taught home economics at Brunswick High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1978. Her marriage to M.W. “Hurd” Hatfield took place June 20, 1948. She was a member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association, Alpha Delta Kappa and an active member of the Pilot Club of Brunswick.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-granddaughter, Eryanna Jones.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Hughes and Leone Jones, both of Brunswick, Ga.; four sisters, Dena Armstrong of Indianola, Lou Greenman of St. Charles, Sally Wharff of Norwalk and Jean Reynolds of Prospect Heights, Ill.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
