MAXINE JOHNSON, CROMWELL

Maxine Elizabeth Johnson, 89, of Creston died Jan. 28, 2008, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 31, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Dan Moore officiating. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in rural Cromwell. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may sent to www.powersfh.com.

Maxine Johnson was born Jan. 21, 1919, to Lyle and Cora “Myrtle” (Benson) Travis of Peru and graduated from Peru High School in 1936. Her marriage to Trueman H. Johnson took place June 17, 1939, in Grant City, Mo. In 1947, they moved to Cromwell where they owned and operated a corn shelling business until the mid 1980s. Maxine and Trueman also owned the Cromwell Tavern from 1956–73. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Kendall Travis and one in infancy; and three sisters, Lorraine Ward, Mary Huss and one in infancy.

She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Cavin of Cromwell; one brother, Clark Travis of Davenport; one sister, Doris Young of Winterset; and one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
