James Elton Rohr, 87, of Winterset died Feb. 1, 2008, at Winterset Care Center North.
Memorial services were held Monday, Feb. 4, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A private burial of the cremated remains will be at the Orilla Cemetery in rural Orilla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
James Rohr was born April 5, 1920, in Greenfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany and France during World War II. His first marriage was to Anna Christina Brolin in 1940. They farmed near Cumming until 1987, when Anna died and James retired.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Cole and Marcella Julson.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary Hammer Rohr of Winterset; two daughters, Penelope A. Fedro of Cedar Rapids and Gail A. Pace of Waukee; two step-sons, Keith Hammer of Bettendorf and Mark Hammer of Baxter; a sister, Lucille Schmidt of Altoona; and three grandchildren, three step-grandsons, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
