Member of Well-Known Local Family Was Life-Long Resident
Cliff Harrell, member of a well-known Madison county farm family and a life-time resident of the community, died Saturday, September 24, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 76 years of age.
Mr. Harrell was born in this county November 5, 1889, a son of Lewis and Elizabeth Van Buskirk Harrell, and spent his entire life here. He engaged in farming during his active life, but had retired five years ago.
He was the last surviving member of the family, his five brothers and a sister having preceded him in death.
Mr. Harrell was married October 15, 1913 at Winterset to Gertie M. DeBok, who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Delbert Harrell of Winterset, Clifford Harrell, Jr. of Osceola, and Robert Harrell of Thayer; four daughters, Mrs. Howard Duff of Nice, California, Mrs. Harold Libby of Winterset, Mrs. Keith Guthrie of Norwalk and Mrs. Delbert Trevillyan of Winterset; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Melvin R. Mattox. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
