JOHN CLARKE OF ST. CHARLES DIES

John S. Clarke, a life-long resident of the St. Charles community died Thursday, September 1 at a Des Moines hospital. He was 71 years of age.

Mr. Clarke was a retired farmer and had served as sexton of the St. Charles cemetery. He was a member of the St. Charles post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was born in Warren county November 7, 1894, a son of Charles Clarke, Sr. and Margaret Pickens Clarke. He was married in 1921 and his wife survives him. He was a member of the Christian church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Condon of Des Moines and Mrs. Lorraine Foster of Denver, Colorado; a son, George W. Clarke of Belle Plaine; four grandchildren; three brothers, Charles Clarke of Truro, Frank P. Clarke of Mr. Ayr and Willis Clarke of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Charles Crawford of California.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the St. Charles Christian church, conducted by the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
