MRS. ALMA FAYE STEMEN DEPARTS THIS LIFE AT 43

“Death loves a shining mark,” the poet sang. This truth was again emphasized in our midst, by the summons that came to Mrs. Alma Faye Stemen to depart this life.

Alma Faye Ilgenfritz, daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. E. E. Ilgenfritz, was born in Audubon, Iowa, May 26, 1892, and departed this life at her home in Monroe, Iowa, May 11, 1935.

Mrs. Stemen graduated from the Boone, Iowa, High School, during the time that her father was District Superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the Boone District. Following her graduation she attended Northwestern University for a time, where she qualified for the teaching profession. For five years she taught in the public schools of Riverside, Iowa.

October 24, 1917, Alma Ilgenfritz was married to Lester K. Stemen, of Riverside, Iowa. The wedding took place at the home of the parents of the bride in Dexter, Iowa. In 1927, they moved to Winterset, Iowa, where they resided until in 1932. Since 1932 Mrs. Stemen with her family, has been a resident of Monroe, Iowa.

A daughter and a son were born to Mr. and Mrs. Stemen; namely, Virginia Faye and Keith Vincent. They, with the husband and four sisters and three brothers, mourn the departure of a good woman whose “Sun went down at noon day”.

Mrs. Stemen was a woman of many rare qualities of charm and endearment. She was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Any endeavor for the promotion of good had her undivided support. Like Martha of old, she was always busy with many interests, and her endeavors and undertakings were always well conceived, and equally well carried out. Hers was a spirit that accepted whatever conditions came to it, and molded them into bright, beauteous living. In the face of sorrow, trial and losses, she still managed, in the few years that were given her, to piece out a lovely pattern of life. Memory holds dear a lasting value of real character, of great beauty, and even of greater courage.

Parting funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. from the home of Dr. R. M. Shipman, of Des Moines, district superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal church, assisted by Rev. Dillman Smith of Des Moines and Rev. R. R. Moser of Monroe.

Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery, where her parents are buried. Pallbearers were Harry Dibel, Frances Barber, Ralph Miller, Paul Craven, Everett Bump and Howard Roberts.
