Page 1DEATH OF A. G. MCDANIEL
Was Pioneer School Teacher In Madison County
Abraham G. McDaniel, former Madison county rural school teacher was found dead, Friday afternoon, in his three room cottage in Des Moines. The Des Moines Register tells of his death as follows:
Mr. McDaniel, 75, who once held the highest ranking teachers certificate in Polk county, died as he had lived since he retired from teaching 20 years ago, alone with his books. Death, believed to have occurred Sunday, January 27th, from slow starvation and exposure, came on the eve of completion of the investigation of Mr. McDaniel’s application for an old age pension.
The deceased went to Des Moines in the early nineties from Warren county and taught in Des Moines, for twenty years. Occupying the cottage in which he died, for 30 years, Mr. McDaniel never married and for 20 years had led the life of a recluse. Of brilliant mind, Mr. McDaniel spent most of his time reading literature.
He is survived by his brother, Ward of Macon, Missouri, and a sister, Mrs. W. R. Etchison of Gallatin, Missouri.
Funeral services were held in Des Moines, Tuesday. He taught in Patterson before leaving for Des Moines.
