FORMER RESIDENT PASSES

John C. Murphy, Former Postal Official Dies at Santa Barbara

A former resident of this community, John C. Murphy, died at his home in Santa Barbara, at the age of 77 years. Funeral services were held there, Tuesday, July 30th.

The former Murphy home here was two miles northeast of Winterset, and the farm is still designated as the old Murphy place. The family moved to Des Moines sixty years ago, and Mr. Murphy was chief clerk of the U. S. railway mail service there for many years. He moved to Santa Barbara about ten years ago. Mrs. Murphy was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Jones, early residents of Winterset, and she with their two sons survive: Donald R. Murphy an editor with Wallaces’ Farmer of Des Moines and Fred Murphy of Santa Barbara.
