W. B. Hodges, of Scott township, one of the familiar figures of the county and a veteran of the civil war, died at his home two miles east of town last Friday after a brief illness.
Mr. Hodges was born in Pike county, Ill., in 1845. Left an orphan at the tender age of four years he grew to manhood through strife and struggle.
At the breaking out of the war he enlisted in Company G of the 7th Missouri Cavalry and served honorably for four years, and during the balance of his life carried an empty sleeve in consequence.
He was married to Miss Anna Nickle in 1881, to which union nine children were born, two of whom preceded him. He leaves to mourn him, a beloved wife, seven children, one grandchild, a brother and hosts of friends.
The funeral services were held at the home Sunday at nine a.m., conducted by Rev. Atwood. Interment took place in the St. Charles cemetery.
