Viva Smith of Lorimor Dies

Mrs. Viva G. Smith, long-time resident of Lorimor, died Sunday, Sept. 3 at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 86 years of age.

Mrs. Smith was the former Viva Gertrude Neely, daughter of Pinckney and Sarah Neely and was born May 21, 1886 in Clarke county. As a young woman she worked in Bishop's printing shop in Lorimor.

She was married to Charles M. Smith on Sept. 19, 1906. His death occurred in 1925. They were parents of six children, with one daughter, Olive, preceding the mother in death.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Christian church and the American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are five children, Floyd, Dale, Stanley, Helen and Wesley, all of Lorimor; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Watkins of Grinnell, Vera Wiede of Bellflower, Calif., and Florence Neely of Winterset; and a brother, Ferol Neely of Alden.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday from the Lorimor Baptist church in charge of the Rev. Darold Snow. Burial was to be made in the Fellowship cemetery.
