Nicholas Boos

Nicholas Boos was born at Reinsbach, Germany, September 26th, 1865. At the age of 17 he emigrated to America, coming directly to Van Meter, Iowa, where he lived for several years. After spending some time in Pennsylvania, he again made his home in Van Meter, and on May 24th, 1867 he was united in the bonds of holy wedlock to Miss Anna Fritch. This union was blessed with eleven children, four of which died in infancy, and one, Mrs. Arthur Jensen, passed away in January 1919.

The family moved to their present home in Jefferson township, Madison county in 1899. Though brought up in the Roman Catholic faith, Mr. Boos joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1896 and has remained an active and faithful member of Trinity Congregation to the time of his departure.

Mr. Boos had been ailing for some time, but a short time ago complications set in and his condition became serious, he passed away in the faith of his Saviour at 1 o'clock, Sunday afternoon. The days of his pilgrimage were 59 years, 1 month, 20 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing widow, six children, Mrs. Katherine Lienemann, Joseph , Mrs. Elsie Zieman, Mrs. Anna Martens, William and Clara. There are ten grandchildren, three brothers in the states of Oregon and Washington, and two sisters in Germany also survive.

In Mr. Boos the family has lost a tender, loving and hard-working husband and father, the community a universally beloved and esteemed friend and neighbor and the church a devoted and faithful member.

"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yes.

Note: Buried in Trinity German Lutheran cemetery. Also, Polk Co. Iowa marriage records state their marriage date was April 20, 1887.
