Elihu C. Roberts was born Nov. 18, 1849 in Wayne county, Indiana and passed away at his home in Murray, Iowa, Nov. 25, 1924, aged 75 years and 7 days.

He came to Iowa at the age of four years and with his parents lived near Oskaloosa for four years. They then moved to Madison county, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage April 16, 1870 to Maranda E. Hooten. After their marriage they moved to a farm in Madison county where he resided until the death of his wife, Oct. 3, 1901.

He then came to Murray to make his home and where he was married to Emma J. Stewart. To this union was born one son, Orie Elihu Roberts, who preceded his father in death, Oct. 18, 1906.

In the year of 1912 he was united in marriage at Winterset to Emma A. Selby and they made their home in Murray, living together 10 years, she passing away June 7, 1922.

Benjamin F. Roberts was adopted by him and reared as his own son, who feels deeply the loss of a father. He also leaves to mourn his loss a brother, W. H. Roberts of Murray; also a nephew, W. E. Hollingshead of Murray, who lived in his home for six years, besides other more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Roberts united with the M. E. church at an early date.

Funeral services were conducted from the home on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27th at 2 o'clock with Rev. White, pastor of the Church of God, north of Osceola in charge.

Rev. White was a lifelong friend of the deceased. Rev. E. O. Douglass, pastor of the Murray M. E. church, assisted in the service.

Interment was made in the Ebeneezer cemetery in Madison county.
