Joseph T. Scott

Joseph T. Scott, son of John and Emily Scott, was born Oct. 27, 1853, on a farmstead in Marion county, Iowa. When a small child, he moved with his parents to Madison county, where the greater part of his life was spent.

On March 15, 1882 he was married to Nancy B. Moore of Clarke county, Iowa. To bless this union were eight children; Stella Ergenbright of Gildford, Mont.; Ada Stifel of Booneville; Elsie Groves of Kellerton, Charles Scott of Des Moines and Frank M. and Ruth who are living at Benton, Iowa with their mother, and Chester W. Scott who died Aug. 26, 1923.

For 19 years he, with his family, resided at Barney, moving to Benton in 1911 where he lived until the morning of December 26, 1924 when his Lord and Master called him home. Mr. Scott had been failing in health for some time but was only bedfast a few days, being stricken with neuralgia of the heart. He bore his terrible suffering with much patience and fortitude.

He had been connected with the C.G.W. railway company for a period of 32 years, ranking as one of the oldest and most efficient men in the service. His heart and soul were in his work and he was always ready to render his service to the company at any time, day or night, through storm or sun.

Mr. Scott was a most devoted father to his children and a loving and considerate husband to the wife and mother. besides his wife and children, left to mourn his loss are 11 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at the Church of Christ in Benton, conducted by Rev. Augustine. Burial was at the Benton cemetery.
