1917

Asenath George, daughter of Moreman and Elizabeth Mardock Haworth was born in Vermillion County, Ill. January 3, 1829. When eleven years old she moved with her parents to Iowa, settling on a farm near Richland in Keokuk County. She was married to Evan George in April 1849. Their first home was on a farm near the present town of Ackworth in Warren County, Iowa. This being their home until they removed to Dallas County in 1866, settling on a farm near the Bear Creek church. In January 1893 they moved to the present home in Earlham where she died December 2, 1917, aged 88 years, 10 months and 29 days. She enjoyed the companionship of her husband for almost 62 years.

To this union were born ten children, four sons and six daughters, six of whom are still living, all present but one son living at Walla, Wash.

She was a birthright member of the Friends church and was converted in her home during a series of meetings that were held in the Bear Creek church. She was a diligent student of the Bible, having read it through several times and during the last few years of her life it was the first thing in the morning and the last thing in the evening.

She seldom took any vocal part in meetings for worship bur when she retired for the night you could always hear her vocal petition to her God, including an expression of her confidence in Him by repeating the 23rd Psalm.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lescault from the Friends church at Earlham, December 4 and burial at Bear Creek cemetery.

(Was in the 1910 Madison County census)
