Algreen Death In Des Moines

A resident of Madison County since 1914, Bill Algreen, 74, died Friday, March 4, 1977 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was the son of Peter Algreen and Lily Moyer Algreen born March 28, 1902 in Fontanelle, Iowa.

A retired farmer at the time of his death, Mr. Algreen was also widely known as a trainer of horses, both for show and pleasure. Mr. Algreen was a veteran of the Army, where he served with the Artillery. He was a member of American Legion Green-Rogers Post 184 of Winterset.

Mr. Algreen's marriage to Margaret Caldwell took place December 29, 1943 at Atchison, Kansas. She survives her husband.

Also surviving is a daughter, Peggy Jean Algreen and a stepdaughter, LeeEllen Splain, both of Loveland, Colorado; five brothers, Bruce of Dexter, Harry of Dexter, Verne of Dexter, Keith of Winterset and Pete of Earlham; a sister, Orpha Khuns of Orient and three grandchildren.

Mr. Algreen was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services were conducted Monday March 7, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home with burial at the Pitzer Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Evelsizer of the Dexter-Pitzer parishes.
