Winterset Madisonian
September 3, 1874; p. 4

Tom Holmes, lately engineer on our Passenger train, has been called to mourn the death of his wife. She was taken with a pain in her eye which spread until her whole body was in excruciating pain so severe that for hours she was in one spasm after another until death came to her relief on Saturday. Mrs. Ira Perigo was with her when she died. Mrs. Holmes leaves two children-one a babe of about three weeks old. This intelligence will be very sad to her many friends here for she had many, and Mr. Holmes has the sympathy of all our people.
