Frank Cochran, son of Wesley Cochran, passed away October 29. He had been an invalid four years or more, a most worthy young man. Services by Mr. Beard were held at the home. An unusually large funeral procession followed the body to the grave in the Moon cemetery.

There is no rose, it matters not how sweet,
Whose beauty does not hide the cruel briar.
There is no path though pleasant and cool retreatBut passes also through flood and fire.
On the 10th of August, 1871, Frank Cochran first saw the light, in Madison county, Iowa. He was a bright happy boy, with hosts of friends, and life seemed to hold to him such promises of life that happiness would be complete. When seventeen years of age he met with an accident that was not deemed serious, but it was soon evident that disease had taken hold of his weakened system. The rose of health had faded and left only the cruel briar of suffering. Four years he lingered thus, helpless, patient and cheerful, till Friday, October 28, when he sank peacefully into the arms of the pale, silent messenger, and was borne from our sight. The last sad rites were conducted by the writer on Sunday the 30th, and a long train of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
