Obituary

Wm. McQuie, Sen., died of consumption, at his home in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, October 28, at 4 o’clock p.m. Was born in Parish Kirkmalrick, Scotland, in 1826, thus being 66 years of age. Deceased left Scotland in 1857 settled in Knox county, Ill., where he lived 14 years then emigrated to Iowa, and settled on the farm where he died having lived there 21 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church 26 years. He was a man of unusual sympathy, tender hearted, always ready to bestow a kindness, truthful beyond any question, honest, strictly temperate, faithful and industrious in the business of his life, and highly respected by all who knew him, thus, with all those virtues, he seemed to make up a first-class citizen, be surely worthy of the title of an exemplary man.

Rev. Ainslie, Presbyterian minister of Dexter, conducted the funeral services to an over-crowded house, after which his body was laid to rest in the silent grave in the Penn Center cemetery.
