Death of Roy Potter

Roy Potter, a life-long resident of Madison county, died at 11 o'clock Monday night, October 1st, at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. Mr. Potter had been in poor health for some time and had been critically ill since he was operated on for double goiter last Wednesday.

Mr. Potter was forty-three years of age and had lived most of his life in Patterson. He was associated with his father, the late George Potter, in the general store at Patterson, for a number of years, and was more recently in the grain business there. Several years ago on account of his poor health, he sold out his business to J. G. Martin. He and his family spent some time in California and moved on their farm near St. Charles a year ago last March.

He is survived by his wife, who was the former Miss Lillian Yoders and four children, Mrs. Doris Ray of Nevada and Dale, Jack and Shirley at home. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. George Potter of Winterset and four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Earl Norman of Van Meter; Mrs. Everett Quick of Patterson; Mrs. Floyd Don Carlos of Perry; Mrs. Bill Boelter of Des Moines; John Potter of Patterson and Ernest Potter of Valley Junction.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Methodist church in Patterson this Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery. The Masonic lodge of Winterset of which he was a member will have charge of the services at the cemetery.

Roy A. Potter

Roy Albert Potter, eldest son of Mrs. and Mrs. George Potter, was born February 16, 1886 in Madison county, Iowa and departed this life October 1, 1928 at the age of 42 years, 7 months and 16 days.

He was united in marriage to Lillian Yoder on the 7th day of March 1906. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Virgil Ray of Nevada; Dale, Jack and Shirley at home, who with their mother survive him. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, Hattie Potter of Winterset; two brothers, John, of Patterson and Ernest of Valley Junction; four sisters, Letitia Don Carlos of Perry; Mina Norman of Van Meter; Flora Quick of Patterson, and Marie Boelter of Des Moines and a grandson, Neal Ray. His father preceded him in death six months ago.

At the age of sixteen years he united with the Methodist church of Patterson, and was always a faithful member.

His entire life was spent in this vicinity. In later years he was engaged in the grain business until two years ago ill health caused him to make a change. Since then he has lived on a farm near St. Charles.

Mr. Potter was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the I.O.O.F. and Modern Woodmen lodges.

Funeral services were held at the Patterson Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. F. G. Barnes, of St. Charles, and Rev. A. P. Keast of Winterset. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery and was conducted by the Winterset Masons.
