Funeral services were held on March 12, 2007 at Menlo United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kathy Sides and Pastor Ernie Baiotto co-officiating. Rev. Sides sand "The Old Rugged Cross" and Bill Barton sang "On Eagle's Wings". Janna Nelson provided the piano accompaniment.

Serving as casket bearers were David Anker, Jeff Anker, Brandon Hocke, Matthew Drake, Mark Drake and Michael Hermann. Honorary bearers included Kristen Garber, Valarie Gibson, Lorrie Hocke, Melissa Hermann, Melinda Barton and Bridget Barton.

Lucille Powell, 88 passed away on her birthday, March 7, 2007 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa, where she had resided for the past several months.

Mary Lucille Zornes was born on March 7, 1919 near Monteith, in Guthrie County, Iowa to Lola J. and Frank S. Zornes. She married Truman B. Powell on June 25, 1938 in Redfield, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born; Carolyn, Sandra and Dee.

In the early years of her marriage Lucille was a farm wife near Earlham and a loving mother to her three daughters. She most enjoyed her many flowers, cooking for her family and friends, and helping Truman on the farm. When her girls were older, Lucille went to work as a cook at the Horse and Buggy Restaurant in Adel, until its closing. She then worked as a cook-dietician at the Dexter Hospital and completed 21 years of dedicated service before its closing. Truman and Lucille also farmed south of Menlo for 32 years. Lucille made her home with Carolyn and her husband Don since May 2002.

In her later years, when she made her home with Don and Carolyn, she loved sitting on the deck and watching the lake activity and was an avid bird watcher. She also enjoyed the neighbors who stopped to see her and have a cup of coffee.

Lucille is survived by her daughters, Carolyn and her husband Don Anker of Golden, Missouri, Dee Hermann of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and Sandra Drake of Stuart; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Truman; six brothers, Vern, Wayne, Floyd, Carlton, Emmett, and Donald and one sister, Hazel Colbert; two great-grandchildren, Danielle Anker and Dustin Hermann.

The committal service and interment were at Rose Hill Cemetery near Menlo, Iowa. Professional arrangements by Ruppert Funeral Home of Stuart.
