JOSEPHINE ROUSE, INDIANOLA

Josephine M. Rouse, 83, of Indianola and formerly of Winterset, died Dec. 19, 2007, at Westview Care Center in Indianola.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 21, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. Burial was at Peru Cemetery.

Jo Rouse was born Nov. 10, 1924, to Claude and Daisy (Emerson) Shearer of Peru. Her marriage to Rex Rouse took place Oct. 22, 1944, in Peru. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County until moving to Indianola in 2001. Jo, a homemaker, also worked as the jail matron for many years. Her husband Rex was a longtime Madison County sheriff. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indianola and Winterset American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Hardin of Hartley; one son, Fred Rouse of Indianola; a sister, Berniece Miller of Powell, Wyo.; and four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-granddaughter.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Peru United Methodist Church or American Legion Auxiliary in Winterset.

Josephine M. Rouse, 83, of Indianola, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Westview Care Center in Indianola.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. December 21, 2007, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery at Peru, Iowa.

Jo was born on November 10, 1924, at Peru to Claude and Daisy (Emerson) Shearer. She was married on October 22, 1944 at Peru, to Rex Rouse. She had been a lifetime resident of Madison County until moving to Indianola in 2001. Jo was the wife of the county sheriff and worked as the jail matron for many years. She also was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indianola and Winterset American Legion Auxiliary.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jack) Hardin of Hartley, Iowa and son, Fred (Joy) Rouse of Indianola; sister, Berniece Miller of Powell, Wyoming; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, nine great-step-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-granddaughter.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Rouse.

Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. before the service on Friday.

Memorials given to the family will be directed to Peru United Methodist Church or American Legion Auxiliary in Winterset.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel and Funeral Services in Winterset.
