RICHARD C. WILSON, WINTERSET

Richard C. Wilson, 80, of Winterset died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the First Christian Church, Winterset. Visitation will be from 1–8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with family present to receive friends from 6–8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorials may be directed to a fund which has been established in his memory.

Richard was born May 22, 1927, in Winterset, Iowa, the son of Eldon Lee and Carita Mae (Neely) Wilson. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1945 and later attended linotype school. Richard served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

His marriage to Loretta Lekin took place July 11, 1953. Loretta died in 1983. Later, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Farr on Aug. 9, 1986, in Winterset.

Richard was a production superintendent for the Daily Iowan, a newspaper at the University of Iowa, for 40 years. He also was employed at the Newton Daily News.

Richard was a member of the Methodist Church, Lakeview Country Club, American Legion, and a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 of Winterset. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, growing apple trees, traveling, and watching Iowa Hawkeye football — but most of all, Richard cherished his family and the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Winterset; his children — Kay M. Stokes of Iowa City, Thomas J. Wilson of Arlington, Texas, Mary E. Michel (Joe) of Iowa City, James R. Wilson of Newport Beach, Calif., Michael N. Wilson (Wendy) of Hale, Mo., and stepson, Jeff Farr (Patty) of Winterset; grandchildren — Amy, Tim and Ross Wilson, all of Texas, Trisha Stokes (Bob Juhl) and Mark Michel, both of Iowa City; stepgrandchildren — Cody Farr of Des Moines, Lauren and Hunter Farr, both of Winterset, and Wade and Amanda Judy, both of Hale, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Dylon and Maile Stokes-Juhl of Iowa City; a brother, Arnold Wilson (Verla) of Sun City, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Rolland Jamison of Winterset; two sisters-in-law, Marabelle Wilson and Helen Sawyer (Bobby Vawter), both of Winterset; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Loretta; a brother, Marvin Wilson; two sisters, Dawn Whinghter and Carolyn Jamison; and a stepson, Jerry Farr.
