LELAND SECREST DIES SUDDENLY

Stricken With Fatal Heart Attack at Home Near Macksburg

Leland E. Secrest, well-known young farmer of the Macksburg community, died suddenly last Thursday, July 23 at his home in Grand River township. Death resulted from a heart attack at the age of 41 years.

Mr. Secrest was a life-time resident of Madison county. He was born here November 13, 1924 a son of Everett and Pearl Marston Secrest. He graduated from the Earlham High school and had spent his active life farming in this county.

He was married at Penn Center on September 8, 1948 to Velma Boyd, who survives him.

He was member of the Madison county Farm Bureau and the Angus association and was active in 4-H club work over a long period of years. He was a member of the E.U.B. church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Mrs. Judy Thompson, Ronnie Secrest, aged 14, and Larry Secrest, aged 3. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Secrest of Macksburg; one grandson, Michael; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Stevens of Winterset; a brother, Marvin Secrest of Council Bluffs and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ed Martston.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. William Richardson. Burial was made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.
