Martha L. Dunmire, 78, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Southtown Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Earlham Cemetery.

She was born May 7, 1926 in Corning. She worked as a kitchen helper for the Des Moines Public Schools before her retirement. Martha lived in Des Moines most of her life and helped with the American Cancer Drives. Mrs. Dunmire enjoyed reading, knitting, baking, being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and collecting angels and bells.

Mrs. Dunmire is survived by her daughters, Carol LeMay and Cheryl Benton, both of Des Moines; her sisters, Clara Reed of Woodbine and Gladys Conkling of Beverly, OH; a half sister, Barbara Olive of St. Charles, MO; her brother, Howard Paul of Mesa, AZ; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Bud" Dunmire and a daughter, Mary Riveriaestrella.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributations are suggested to Hospice of Central Iowa or the American Cancer Society.
