November 2006Funeral services were held for Earnest R. Allsup on November 4, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter, Iowa.
Pastor George Thurman officiated. Special music was "Just a Closer Walk With Thee", "Grandpa" by the Judd's and "Amazing Grace".
Pallbearers were Joey Reynolds, Kevin Allsup, Brian Allsup, Randy Allsup, Scott Allsup, and Larry Joe Allsup. Honorary pallbearers were Ginger Crozier, Cindy Comly.
Earnest (Earnie) Allsup passed away on November 1, 2006 at the Westbridge Care Center located in Winterset, Iowa t the age of 89 years, 6 months and 26 days.
Earnie was born on April 6, 1917 in Milo, Iowa. He was the 8th child of 13 children born to Albert and Lucrecia (Dollison) Allsup. Earnie attended the Earlham school in Earlham, Iowa and in 1936 he married Susie Swafford of rural Dallas County. To this union, 4 children were born.
In 1936, Earnie and Susie started farming and in 1955 they purchased the Earlham Cafe. Earnie also worked for Concrete Materials of Earlham and eventually purchased the little country store of Arbor Hill located in rural Adair County. He also worked for the county of Adair as a maintainer operator taking care of the rural roads and retired to his farm in rural Adair County.
Earnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Susie; son Larry Allsup; daughter Linda Miile; and all 12 of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter Gloria Merical of Adel; son Wayne Allsup of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Earnie's memory will live on in the many lives he touched. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Interment was held in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
