JOHN LADD Of Winterset Dies

John J. Ladd of Winterset, a Madison county resident for most of his long life, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1964, at a Winterset nursing home. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Ladd was born at Van Meter Aug. 23, 1880, a son of Benton and Martha Ladd. Most of his life was spent in farming, but he had been retired in recent years.

He was married Nov. 20, 1901, to Mary A. Gillespie. They were parents of seven sons and a daughter. The wife and mother preceded him in death. He was married a second time in 1927 to Mrs. Laura Clay, who also preceded him in death.

He is survived by six sons, William J. Ladd and Walter F. Ladd of Des Moines, Everett Ladd of Iowa City, Marvin Ladd of Moline, Ill., Boyd Ladd of Newton, and John J. Ladd, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona. He also leaves 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

The daughter, Mrs. Rose Johnson, and one son, Melvin, preceded the father in death.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
