BENJAMIN F. SUTHERLAND

Benjamin Franklin Sutherland was born in Bureau county, Illinois, May 20, 1863 and passed away at the Horton Nursing Home, Winterset, October 21, 1953.

While still a boy he moved with his family to Dallas county, Iowa. He was united in marriage March 4, 1884 to Leah Reves, who preceded him in death March 19, 1918. To this union six children were born. On January 20, 1920 he was united in marriage to Mary Scott. Mr. Sutherland engaged in farming in Dallas and Guthrie counties.

About 1940 he retired and in 1943 moved to Earlham, where he lived until about two months before his death. Surviving are his wife; a son, Orvis A. Sutherland, Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Mrs. Flossie Clark, Des Moines; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Two daughters and one son passed away in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. Bertha Bechtel passed away in 1952.

Services were held at the Christian church, Adel, Friday, October 23, 1953, 2:00 p.m. Interment Brethren cemetery Panther. Rev. Ben Sinderson was in charge.

Casket bearers were, Will Bever, Carl Reves, Wilbur Andrews, Arthur Marks, Claude Mark and Harrison Pickett. Organist, Mrs. Neal Caudron. Fisher Funeral Service of Adel-Van Meter conducted the funeral.
