ROSE MYRTLE SMITH

Rose Myrtle Pearson Smith, daughter of Samuel H. and Emily Pearson, was born January 25, 1891 and passed away at the Maple Lin nursing home in Earlham, Iowa, February 2, 1974 at the age of 83 years and 8 days. She grew to young womanhood in Madison County and received her schooling at Jackson Twp. No. 1 in Madison County.

On November 22, 1910, she was married to Charles L. Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union two sons were born: Charles Thayne Smith of Des Moines and Cecil F. Smith who passed away in June 1967.

She was preceded in death by her husband on November 28, 1949, son Cecil, three sisters and three brothers.

She leaves to mourn her passing: Charles Thayne Smith of Des Moines, a sister Susie Smith of Earlham, a sister Doris Kalbach Marsh of Dexter, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The church was very much a part of her life. At the age of 14 years she joined Early Chapel church and upon moving to Redfield in 1933, she transferred her membership to the Redfield Christian church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 9127 of Des Moines, the Rebekah Lodge and the Eastern Star of Redfield. Her family and her church were her first concern and her goal in life, and she was a dear friend to all who knew her.

Services were held Wednesday, February 6, at Fisher's Funeral Home in Redfield with Rev. Loren Diddy in charge. Vyrlee Godwin provided the music. Pallbearers were Emmett Campbell, Howard Hunt, Dickey Martin, Raymond Merical, Arnold Whitney and Clyde Widener.

Interment was in the De Soto cemetery.
