Mayme Hockett, 80, a former Earlham resident died January 7 at Boone where she had been a resident of the Eastern Star Home for several years. The daughter of Stephen and Ruth Hockett, Earlham pioneers, she graduated from the local high school and after her graduation from college taught music for a time at Earlham high school. She attended Penn College, Oskaloosa; and Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
For 40 years she taught music in the Des Moines public schools and continued to be active in musical organizations after her retirement in 1958.
