Two or three weeks ago, Mrs. Ezra Brownell, of Lincoln township, and her son, Fred, started to Indiana for a visit to relatives and friends. The early part of this week Mr. Brownell received a letter announcing her serious illness. He started to her immediately. While he was yet on the way, a telegram was received here giving the sad intelligence of her death. No further particulars have reached us. Mrs. B’s death has not been rugged for some time, but no one imagined she was so near the bank of the dark river.

Harriet (Foster) Brownell was born in Johnson county, this state, March 20, 1841; her parents came to this county in 1843, locating in West Creek township. She was married to Ezra Brownell, of this county, February 20, 1866, and lived in this county until the 10th of March 1875, when the family moved to Winterset, Iowa, where they now reside.
She was the mother of three children, (boys) who with her husband survive and mourn her.
Accompanied by her son Fred, she was on a visit to friends in this vicinity; was taken sick on Friday, January 29, and died at the residence of Charles McGill, Hebron, Wednesday, February 3, 1892, at 5 o’clock a.m. aged 50 years, 10 months and 14 days. Her death was caused by la grippe and affections attendant upon that disease.
The funeral service took place in the M. E. church, Lowell, Friday, February 5th, at 10 o’clock a.m., Rev. John Bruce, officiating. Her remains were taken to the West Creek cemetery for interment. Her youngest son reached her just in time for the funeral. We extend to the bereaved family our warmest sympathy in this their dark hour of sorrow and bereavement.—Lowell Tribune.
