Wednesday, October 30, 1918Death of MRS. FRED HARDY
Mrs. Minnie Selby Hardy died on Friday evening, following a week's illness from pneumonia. For several years, she had been suffering from a lung weakness which rendered her an easy prey to flu pneumonia.
Mrs. Hardy came to Winterset as a little girl, spending the greater part of her life here. She and her husband were schoolmates throughout high school graduating in the same class, and their marriage six years ago was one of ideal happiness. She was deeply loved by many people, old and young; an earnest Christian, zealous in the support of the Baptist church, a worthy member of the Order of the Eastern Star, ever sweet and willing in performance of her duties; a loyal daughter, a loving wife and devoted mother. One little daughter remains to comfort Mr. Hardy in his sorrow.
Rev. W. J. Stewart conducted brief services at the Winterset cemetery on Monday afternoon, when her remains were laid beside those of her infant daughter.
Her father, M. A. Selby of Nebraska; her mother, Mrs. Emma Roberts of Murray, Iowa, and her sister, Miss Carolyn Selby of Des Moines, were present at the funeral.

Mrs. Minnie Hardy
Minnie Marion Selby was born in Madison county, Iowa, June 26, 1890 and passed away at the home of B. L. Hardy Oct. 26, 1918, age 28 years and 4 months. She spent most of her life in Madison county, attending its public schools and graduating from the Winterset high school in 1910. She also taught about two years in the schools of this county.
She was united in marriage to C. F. Hardy Sept, 12, 1912, to which union were born two girls, Helen Beatrice Hardy, born Sept. 4, 1914 and departed March 2, 1916; and Margaret May Hardy, born June 23, 1917.
In early childhood Mrs. Hardy manifested a strong desire to lead a Christian life, as is shown by an incident of special interest. At the age of six she was much offended because her mother did not take her to the sacrament. She joined the North River United Brethren church at that time, and has been active in the several branches of the Christian service during her lifetime. She, with her mother and sister, transferred their membership to the First Baptist church of Winterset in 1906, of which she was a member at the time of her departure.
Mrs. Hardy was very devoted to her home duties, placing them above all others. Especially was she devoted to the welfare of her children. Along with the finest instincts and attainments which are found in the noble Christian mother, she was indeed brave during the bereavement which she suffered by the loss of little Helen. Mrs. Hardy had a large circle of relatives and friends in and around Winterset who will feel her loss very keenly and who will miss her very much in her eternal absence. Mrs. Hardy's departure from this life breaks up a home of happiness and contentment. She is mourned by her husband and little daughter, her mother, father, sister and a host of relatives and friends.
