Another pioneer is gone. Uncle Willy Fee passes painlessly and peacefully away. Wm. Fee was born in Claremont county, Ohio, April 4, 1818, and died October 15th, 1891, aged 73 years, 6 months and 9 days.
When he was 16 years old he moved with his father to Hamilton county, Ind., and October 1, 1840, he was married to Miss Hannah Bennett. Six children were born to them, one son and five daughters. The son died in infancy.
His devoted wife, who had lived in happy companionship with him more than fifty-one years, and five daughters, Mrs. Ira Barnett, Mrs. Albert Barnett, Mrs. Wesley Barnett, Mrs. Jacob Myers and Mrs. Duncan Clark, survive him, and precious are their memories of husband and father.
Leaving Indiana in 1852 he came to Iowa, settled in Madison county, and for 39 years had made this his home.
The last eleven years he had been in feeble health and had an attack of la grippe in the winter of 1890, from which he never rallied, and through long, weary months was a constant sufferer, though greatly comforted by the assiduous care and devotion of wife and children. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a true friend, obliging, generous and indulgent, often at a sacrifice to his own personal convenience and comfort. By his kindly disposition and upright conduct he won the esteem and respect of all those whose privilege it was to know him. None named him but to praise him. The funeral occurred October 15th, and was largely attended. Rev. H. Shinn conducted the services, preaching from Psalms, after which we laid him to rest in the Fairview cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn.
