HELM CHILD DROWNS AFTER FALL IN WELL

Baby in Webster Township Tumbles Into 3 Feet of Water

Robert Helm, aged two and one half years, was drowned Monday when he fell into a 30 foot well while playing at the farm home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Helm in Webster township.

Mrs. Helm was at home alone with the child at the time of the tragedy. She had been working in the basement when she missed the child. Unable to find him, she screamed for help and was answered by a neighbor, John Thomas, who came running to the Helm farm.

Thomas started a search, and noticed a missing board on the well. There was no pump in it, the water being drawn by a rope and bucket. Thomas lowered himself into the well by the rope and discovered the child's body in about 3 feet of water in the bottom. He had evidently stopped on a loose board on the well platform and plunged to his death.

Funeral services for the child were held from the Oak Grove church, Wednesday. Burial was made in the Wight cemetery.
