FRED M. SLAYDEN

From Mr. and Mrs. David Slayden of St. Charles, comes the information which reached them Nov. 25th from his captain, that their son, Fred M. Slayden of 313 Trench Mortar Battery, 163 Artillery Brigade, died of broncho-pneumonia in a French hospital on Sept. 28, 1918.

He was born in Bevington May 31, 1891 and leaves his parents, two sisters and two brothers to sorrow for his death.

The body of Fred Slayden, son of David and Frances Slayden, arrived in Peru Saturday morning, and was taken to the home of his parents immediately. The funeral was held at Blair Chapel Monday at 11 o’clock and interment made in the cemetery there.

Fred A. Slayden was born May 31, 1891 in Bevington, Iowa, and died in France of pneumonia while serving as a private in 313 Trench Mortar Battery, on Sept. 28, 1918, aged 27 years, 3 months and 27 days. He was drafted while working on a farm in Jasper county and reported at Newton June 27, 1918 and was sent to Camp Dodge and from there to France.
