James F. Roby Dies

James F. Roby, well known resident of Madison county, died at his home in Truro, last Wednesday, October 30th, after an extended illness. He was 74 years of age, and had spent his entire life in this county.

The deceased was a son of Jonathan and Lucinda Roby, and was born in Winterset, September 21, 1861. When a small child, he with his parents, moved to the farm east of Truro, where he lived the first 38 years of his life. While quite young his father died leaving him with the responsibility of a man, to care for his mother, and younger brothers and sisters.

At the age of 28 he was married to Miss Ella Earl. They lived on the home place for ten years, then purchased a farm a mile south, where they lived, until they built a home in Truro, in 1908. Mr. Roby was a musician, and he organized the Truro band in 1898, and was the leader for many years. He also sang in the choir of the Christian church, having joined when he was a young man.

The last year of his life was one of constant suffering. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Cora Mitchell of La Grange, Illinois, six nephews and two nieces.
