Former Resident of Jackson Township Dies at Hastings Nebraska
Edward L. McCorkle, a resident of Jackson township for 31 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Janet Lary of Hastings, Nebraska, on October 20th last, at the age of 81 years.
Mr. McCorkle who was born in Indiana, came to Marion county when he was six months old. In 1878 he moved near Pitzer and two years later was married to Jane Eden Thomson, who with eight children, survive him.
The family moved near Ridgway Missouri in 1909 and to Smith Center Kansas in 1920.
The body was brought here for burial and funeral services were held at the West Star church on October 22nd.

Thursday, November 7, 1935Edward Lindsay McCorkle was born in Carpenterville, Ind., May 21, 1854 and departed this life October 20, 1935 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Janet Lary in Hastings, Nebr., at the age of 81 years, four months and 29 days.
At the age of six months he moved with his parents to Marion County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In 1878 he moved to Madison county, Iowa. On October 28, 1880 he was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Thomson. To this union eight children were born. In 1909 he moved with his family to Ridgeway, Mo., where they made their home until 1920 where he moved to Smith Center, Kansas, where he has since resided.
He was converted in Marion county when a young man and united with the West Star Methodist church near Winterset, Iowa, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years. In all of his moves he remained a member of the Methodist church in the community where he made his home until a few months ago when with his wife united with the Church of the Nazarine in Smith Center, Kansas. He never lost faith in Christ as his Savior and Master.
Besides his devoted wife he is survived by his eight children, Norma Eyerly, Brighton, Colo.; George McCorkle, Dexter, Iowa; Nina Wright, Pueblo, Colo.; Mabel Morse, Denton, Mont.; Winnie Light Kansas City, Mo.; Edna Landes, Ridgway, Mo.; Harold McCorkle, Smith Center, Kansas; Janet Lary, Hastings, Nebr.; thirty-seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Paxton, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Mae Grannes, Vancouver, Wash.; one brother Merritt McCorkle who preceded him in death and many other relatives and friends.
He was a devoted Christian, a kind and loving husband and father.
The funeral was held in the West Star M.E. Church near Winterset, October 22, at 2 p.m. Burial was made in the cemetery near the West Star church.
