Died, of consumption, at his home in Lincoln township, Tuesday, Feb. 24th, John Burns. He was born in Shefield, England, April 8, 1836, and came to this country with his parents in 1843. Soon after he was left an orphan and was raised to manhood by Alex. Barnes of Hancock county, Illinois.

April 6, 1856, he married Marry E. Haggard by whom he had six children, four of whom survive him. Oscar, Eddie, Frank and Minute. The oldest daughter Mira, wife of A. W. Hartsook, died January 1865. One child died in infancy.

The funeral services were conducted at the house Thursday morning, Februay 26, by his pastor, Rev. W. E. Stanley, of Winterset.

Mr. Burns became a christian and a member of the Baptist church at an early age and has always maintained a consistant life and being highly esteemed by all his acquaintances.
