Old Mr. McPherson, the eccentric Scotch hermit, who for many years lived a solitary life in a small hut in the south part of the city, died a few days ago.

He was an accomplished artist in oil, and until his health broke completely down some time ago, he worked up a great many pictures, mostly Scotch scenery reproduced from memory. He seldom went out of his home, still more seldom was he seen by anyone. Though he had lived in the city a great many years, the majority of the people never saw the man. He had a few special friends who used to go and see him carrying him supplies, and help him while away the time, but beyond these few he lived ------ by the world, even by his neighbors whose houses were within a stone's throw of his.
