May 1972Thee Edwin Reed, 'Eddie,' a former of Madison County, made his home in Perry, Iowa, until his death, May 18, 1972. He was born in Madison County, February 26, 1896, the second son of Austin B. and Altha Mae Beardsley Reed. He received his education and that Peru School.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army, May 13, 1918, at Winterset, Iowa, during World War I, serving in battles in Germany and the Argonne Forest in France. He received a Bronze Victory Metal during his service time and was given an honorable discharge from the Army, August 3, 1919. Upon his return home to Peru he followed the wheat harvest as a hand on the threshing crew, traveling from Kansas to the Dakota.
On December 2, 1925, in Tama, Iowa, he married Dorothy E. Reel, daughter of William Willis Reed and Hester S. Root Reel of Clarke County. To this union was born three sons and two daughters: Edwin Gerald, residing in Pueblo, Colorado; Leo Paul, residing in Des Moines, Iowa; Orville Wayne, residing in Minburn, Iowa; Evelyn Mae (Reed) Sable who passed away April 9, 1975; Ellen Marie (Reed) Carroll, residing in Des Moines Iowa. There are 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Eddy and Dorothy made their first home in the old rock House Western Peru, Iowa, where a was a farmer. They later moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where he worked at Lenox Furnace Company. In the early 1940s the family moved to Perry, Iowa, where any farmed and was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. After the railroad closed down, he bought his own milk truck and hauled milk to the Perry Milk Products Company.
He served many years in his church as a faithful member and the church treasurer. He retired in 1961, filled his retirement years in church work, gardening and traveling.
His wife Dorothy still resides in their home in Perry, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 20th, at Perry for T. Eddie Reed with burial in Violet Hill Cemetery,
Mr. Reed was born at Peru February 26, 1896 the son of Austin F. and Alta M. Beardsley Reed and passed away May 18th at his home in Perry following several months illness.
He was married December 2, 1925 to Dorothy Reed who survives him. He is also survived by three sons Gerald of Pueblo, Colorado, Leo of Redfield and Orville of Minburn, two daughters Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Sable and Mrs. Raymond (Ellen) Walzer both of Des Moines, 15 grandchildren, two brothers, A. Frank Reed of Buffalo, Missouri and Robert L. Reed of Des Moines. A half sister, Mrs. Grant Beem, preceded him in death.
Mr. Reed was a veteran of World War I.
