Obituary

Departed this life on the morning of the 25th of September Brother John R. Kale, in the 42d year of his age. In early life he was converted to the Christian religion, since that time his course has been onward.

His mind seemed constantly on divine things. Of a truth it may be said he was ripening for a happier clime. His increased love for God and His cause won the confidence and affections of all. But he has gone, God had need of him in His temple above, and an angel came in the guise of typhoid fever to call him hence. He was doomed to retire from the scenes he loved so well to fade away and die. His friends, some of them at least, were with him in his last hours, but none could stay the spirit already plumed for immortality. He was calm and submissive as he entered the dark Jordan of death. In his last hours his voice was raised in giving glory to God. The words died away on his paisied lips and he breathed his life away as gently as fades the morning star in the blue ether. A sad vacancy has been made in the home group and wide circle of friends, but our loss is his infinite gain and we will not repine. We rather rejoice that a bright gem is added to the jeweled crown of the spotless Lamb of God. Farewell dear brother and uncle (for so he was to me) peace be to thy sleeping dust, is quietrade thou shalt rest till eternity’s glorious morn. Then in all the grandear and beauty of heaven’s eternal spring, thou shalt come forth, death conquered, the grave vanquished of earth to praise God’s name forever.

J. H. Creger.

Coordinator's note: This obituary appears to fit the death of John R. Kale, Sr. who died (per his gravestone) September 26, 1863 and was about 42 years old at the time of his death. John H. Creger, who authored this obituary, was a preacher and nephew of the deceased. Why this was printed 27 years and 2 months after the death of the deceased is unknown. We have no record of anyone else by this name and age living in Madison County in the 1890s.
