ST. CHARLES MAN TAKES OWN LIFE

Roy Daniels Drinks Poison In Des Moines When Girl Spurns Love

Roy Daniels, 28, of near St. Charles, committed suicide by drinking poison early last Thursday morning in Des Moines. Daniels was riding around in his car in company with Pauline May, 19-year-old Des Moines girl, who said that she had rejected him as a suitor.

Miss May told police that as she drove the automobile toward her home after what was to be their last meeting, Daniels swallowed poison he took from a door pocket of the car. As Daniels grasped and struggled, Miss May stopped the car and called police. The girl said she had known Daniels since last November.

Daniels was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Daniels of near St. Charles, their home being across the line in Warren county. For several years he lived in Winterset, driving a cream truck in the surrounding territory.

The deceased is survived by his parents, and three sisters, Mrs. Harold Tuttle, Mrs. Walter Shutt, and Susie Daniels.

Funeral services were held last Saturday at the Christian church of St. Charles, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Rector. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.
