Page 8MORTUARY - G. L. Archer
G. L. Archer passed away suddenly at his home in St. Charles Friday afternoon, his death resulting from a severe attack of leakage of the heart. He had not been well for a few days but very few people knew of his illness as he had been in the post office that day looking after some of the business, and was in one of the stores about noon. He complained of not feeling well and the doctor was called, but he passed away soon after.
The deceased was born in Monroe county, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Archer. He came to this county in 1892. Had he lived two days longer he would have reached his 66th birthday, and in another day could have observed his 37th wedding anniversary.
He had served as postmaster at St. Charles since 1922, his present commission not expiring until 1936.
In 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Houston, and to this union four children were born, three daughters Mrs. Hazel Smith of St. Charles, Mrs. Marguerite Frey of Des Moines, and Mrs. Gwendolyn Boren of Anita, and one son, the Rev. Franklin Archer of Salt Lake City Utah, and five grand children. He is also survived by three brothers, Delbert of Ackley, Minnesota, Ollie of near Winterset, and Will of Truro.
Mr. Archer was always interested in the better things of life and will be sadly missed in the church and Sunday school where he was usually found if his health permitted him to attend.
Rev. Barker conducted his funeral service Sunday afternoon at 2:45 o’clock at the Methodist church and burial was in the St. Charles cemetery. The Masonic rites were observed both in the church and at the cemetery. The pall bearers were C. E. Downs, V. B. Cheek, H. A. Mueller, A. R. Downs, G. A. Neal, and W. H. Vance of Winterset.
A number of people were in attendance from Murray, Truro, Wick, Des Moines, and Winterset.

Mr. Archer suffered a fatal heart attack Thursday, death occurring Friday afternoon, March 29, the date of his thirty-seventh wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Archer will be remembered as Miss Hattie Houston. Another coincidence was that the funeral and burial was held Sunday on his sixty-sixth birthday.
