Joe S. Thompson

Joe S. Thompson, son of Walter and Harriett Thompson was born in Indiana, in 1852. He settled in Centerville in 1854, and died there, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 19 days. At the age of 20 years he was married to Harriett Hancourt of Monroe. They were the parents of five children: George, Walter and David Hickman of Winterset, L. J. of Centerville and Mrs. Hattie E. Scott of Centerville and Mrs. Verdie Vanderburg of Minneapolis. His wife and a daughter, Belle have preceded him in death.

He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He joined the Christian church, when a young man. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows lodge for 50 years.

The Rev. Fred Madison conducted his funeral service at the Tidricks funeral home, Thursday, March 21, at 2 o’clock, and burial was in the McDonald cemetery.

Death of Joe S. Thompson

Joe S. Thompson, long time resident of Madison county, died at the home of a son in Centerville Tuesday, according to word received that day.

Mr. Thompson was for many years a well known farmer of Jefferson township. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) from Tidrick’s funeral home. Burial will be made in the McDonald cemetery.
