George Donald Howell, son of Nelson and Margaret Howell, was born in Fulton, county, Illinois, July 10, 1854 and died December 29, 1935, at the age of 81 years, five months and nineteen days.
When he was eleven years old, he came to Iowa with his parents. After spending the winter in Des Moines, they settled in Madison county. Here he grew to manhood. When he was 23 years old, he went to Kansas and took a homestead where he lived for 15 years. He then returned to Iowa to his old home and lived there with his sister, Ida, until his death.
He was a member of the Methodist church and for years was an active member.
Uncle George was a good neighbor and a friend to everyone.
He leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Smith of Winterset and Ida of Patterson; one brother David also of Patterson. Five brothers preceded him in death Morris, James, John, Arthur and Ernest.
He leaves a number of nieces and nephews who will long remember his home and kindness to them and a host of other relatives and friends.

GEORGE HOWELL, PIONEER RESIDENT DIED SUNDAY DECEMBER 29TH
George Howell, a long-time resident of this community passed away at his home Sunday, December 29. Mr. Howell who was about eighty years of age, had been in poor health for some time.
He was the son of Margaret and Nelson Howell. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sidney Smith and Miss Ida Howell, and a brother, David Howell. Four brothers, James, Morris, Arthur and Ernest Howell have preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.
