THE LAST OF EARTH

Died at her home in Ohio township, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 1890 of consumption, Mrs. Emma Stoneman, wife of T. H. Stoneman.

Emma Martin was born in Ohio township, Madison county, Iowa, May 23, 1967 and was married to Mr. T. H. Stoneman Dec. 13, 1877. She joined the M. E. church under the pastorate of Rev. Arthur Badley and was baptised and married by the same minister, who preceded her to the grave some two years. She had been a member of the church 14 years.

Her father, James Martin, was killed in the army, after about three years service for his country. She has a brother, W. H. Martin, who survives her. Her mother is now Mrs. Jas. Phipps and she was present at the funeral She leaves to the care of her husband, three daughters and one son, the oldest being 12 years old and the youngest 5 years. She had been an invalid for about one year was conscious to the last and conversed with friends and relatives up to her last breath, dying as she had lived, a devoted Christian woman.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church last Saturday, Rev. Williams preaching a very impressive sermon. A large concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains to the cemetery mingling their tears with those of the bereaved.

Certainly we can say that she will be missed in the home and in the community; as are all such noble mothers, devout Christian and estimable--illegible word.
