DEATH OF GENE SHEARER

Well Known Young Man of Peru Dies In Nevada Hospital

Peru Special, October 14. – This community was saddened on Friday morning by hearing of the death of Gene Shearer at Nevada, on Thursday evening at 8:30, in the Iowa Sanitarium, following a week’s illness. Gene had spent his entire life here, except about two years he lived with his parents, in Charles City and Des Moines. He graduated from the Peru high school with the class of 1930.

He was engaged here in the hardware business with his father, J. W. Shearer for some time, and at the time of his death, he was agency manager for the Register and Tribune at Nevada. He was twenty-four years of age.

The funeral services were held from the M. E. church on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Thomas and burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

A large floral offering showed the esteem in which he was held.

Relatives from out of town who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Barker and daughter, Mrs. Roy Huston of Denver, Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Warren McKee, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey McKee, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Huglin all of Indianola, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown, Miss Elizabeth and Emory Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hendershott and daughter, Marion Shearer, Mrs. Alice Vines and Mrs. Mae Young all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howe, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Beverlin , of Truro, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Wilkinson and sons, Robert and Jimmie of Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton of Des Moines, the former being a district manager for the Register and Tribune and Don Cook and Mr. Dobertson of Nevada who were paper carriers at Nevada.

Gene William Shearer

Gene William Shearer, eldest son of Walter and May Shearer was born at Peru, Iowa, September 23, 1911 and died at Nevada, Iowa, October 10, 1935, at the age of 24 years.

He was baptized and became a member of the M. E. church at Peru in 1928.

Gene was a leader in civic, social, and church affairs of this community. He always took his part and did it well.

The older people will miss him as he was always very kind to them. The young folks loved him for his good humor and clean living. Words cannot describe the honest, clean cheerful life he has lived.

There was a bright future in the business world for him.

The relatives he leaves are his father, mother, one brother and one sister, John and Marjorie, one grandmother, Mrs. J. E. Worthing, other relatives, and many friends wherever he was known.

Services Sunday For EUGENE SHEARER

Eugene Shearer, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Shearer of Peru, died Friday evening in the Nevada hospital. He had been in ill health since a boy when he fractured a vertebrae in a fall. He was the Register and Tribune carrier-salesman manager in Nevada and was unmarried. His parents, a brother and sister survive.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at the Peru Methodist church by the Rev. C. L. Thomas of Kent. Burial was in the Peru cemetery.
