Death of Henry Wier

A former resident of Madison county, Henry Wier, was buried in the Hamblin cemetery, here Monday, following his death last Saturday at the home of his son, Jasper Wier, of Carroll county. He was the father of Mrs. Stella Thomas of Winterset.

Mr. Wier was 81 years of age. He was a resident of Madison county for 16 years, and it was here that his wife died in 1913. For the past 20 years he had made his home with his son.

In addition to Jasper Wier and Mrs. Thomas, he is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Lola Davidson of Coon Rapids, and four grand children.

Henry Wier

Henry Wier, youngest son of William and Hannah Wier, was born October 15, 1854 in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, and died August 15, at the home of his son Jasper Wier of Greenbrier township. He had attained the age 81 years and ten month. For the past year Mr. Wier has not enjoyed his usual good health.

At the age of five he came with his parents from Ohio to Jasper county, Iowa where he grew to young manhood. He attended the schools at that place and June 15, 1875 was married to Emma Jane Slate.

Mr. and Mrs. Wier resided in Jasper county five years and in 1880 moves to Carroll county where they lived 17 years. The family then moved to Madison county and resided there 16 years where Mrs. Wier died January 5, 1911. The past 20 years Mr. Wier has lived in the home of his son, Jasper.

Nr. And Mrs. Wier were the parents of to daughters and one son, Mrs. Stella Thomas of Winterset, Mrs. Lola Davidson of Coon Rapids, and Jasper of Greenbrier township.

Mr. Wier leaves his three children and four grandchildren. He had been a member of the Methodist church since early manhood and attended as long as his health permitted him.

Funeral services were held from Slininger’s Chapel in Jefferson, Monday morning, August 17 at ten o’clock, Rev. Gerald Berneking of the Central Church of Christ of Jefferson in charge. Burial was made the same day in the Hamblin cemetery in Madison county.
