Funeral services for Herman Nielsen are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 16 at Foursquare Church in Winterset, Rev. Charles Updike officiating.
Mr. Nielsen died Monday, April 13 at Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 86 years old.
The son of John Nielsen and Christina Jensen, he was born in Greenfield on October 8, 1894.
In 1919 he married Florence Sarah Hardisty in Greenfield. A veteran he served in the Army in World War I. Mr. Nielsen was a farmer by occupation, retiring in 1958 and moving to Winterset from Adair County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert; a daughter, Dorothy; and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Florence of Winterset; three sons, Elmer J. Nielsen of San Jose, Calif., Larry E. Nielsen of West Palm Beach, Fla., and William Burch of Moravia, Iowa; six daughters, Lela Bost of Ankeny, Margery Wade of Chesterfield, Missouri, Zelpha Turner of Columbia, Missouri, Rama J. White of Palmdale, Calif., Anne Nielsen of Winterset and Sandra Callison of Norwalk; and a sister, Bertha Glade of Bridgewater.
Burial was at Fontanelle Cemetery with military graveside services.
