Death of Mrs. Maggie Walker

Mrs. Maggie Ann Walker, who made Winterset her home for many years, died Sunday morning October 23 at the home of her son, Frank Walker in Sioux City. Mrs. Walker broke her hip several years ago and had been in failing health since that time. She was 85 years of age. The body was brought here and funeral services were held at Tidrick's funeral home, Tuesday, October 25 at 2:30 o'clock. They were conducted by E. R. Zeller, an old friend and neighbor of the family, and Rev. A. P. Keast. Burial was made in the Rock City cemetery.

Mrs. Walker was born May 3, 1842 in Vanange county, Pennsylvania. At the age of 13 she moved with her parents to Green county, Wisconsin and after two years removed to Illinois. In 1857 she came to Iowa which has been her home ever since. In March 1861, she was united in marriage to James V. Walker, who died a few years ago, after they had enjoyed over 50 years of happy life together. He was a soldier in the Civil War and she was his nurse in the army hospital at St. Louis from which place he was discharged. They made this place their home until after his death. She had recently been residing with her son and his wife at Sioux City.
